De Queen, Ark. - UA Cossatot women's soccer overcame a numerical disadvantage and injury to starting goalkeeper and former Haitian World Cup squad member Nahomie Ambroise to secure their first win of the season, defeating the Crowder Roughriders of NJCAA's Division I by a 3-1 scoreline at the Colts Soccer Complex in De Queen, Ark. on Friday afternoon.
Cossatot (1-5) scored two early goals and were able to keep the Roughriders (1-6-3) at bay, with freshman forward Erlande Desinord filling admirably in for her fellow Haitian in goal.
The Colts struck first in the fifth minute, with freshman forward Dahana Deis intercepting a Crowder clearance and curling in a stunning long shot from outside of the box to score.
This would be added onto just a moment payer, with fellow freshman forward Mary Ramirez making a run into the box and latching onto a Francesca Dorreus through ball to put UAC up 2-1.
Crowder scored in the 22nd minute to cut the deficit in half, but Cossatot was able to hold on to take a lead into halftime.
The Colts held an upper hand through the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Roughriders 11 to six, scoring on both shots on goal, while Desinord made two saves filling in for Ambroise.
Two minutes into the second half Dorreus received a Deis pass, deked out a CC defender and slotted the ball into the net for a 3-1 lead.
While Crowder had a few more shots, they were unable to score with Desinord keeping the ball out of the net, as the Colts won 3-1.
Cossatot thoroughly outplayed Crowder on the stat sheet, outshooting them 17-11.
It was six saves out of seven for Desinord in a new position, good for a .857 save percentage.
The Colts kick off conference play to start October, with a trip to Hot Springs to play rivals National Park College on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.
