The University of Arkansas Cossatot Colts began their athletic department in 2018, with basketball transitioning from a club team to an NJCAA team for the 2019-20 season.

Joined by soccer and shooting sports in 2023, UAC now boasts five teams: men's and women's basketball coached by Athletic Director Stan Asumnu (former Tennessee football/basketball and G-League player), men's and women's soccer coached by former Northeastern State/Dayton goalkeeper Justin Hinman, and a co-ed shooting sports team coached by Brett Blackburn.

The shooting sports team finished top five nationally among junior colleges and top 50 nationally among all schools. The soccer programs have multiple exhibition wins and ties against four-year opposition, including NCAA Division I's University of Central Arkansas. Basketball just had one of the most dominant junior college players in the nation in center Coriana Fulbright, who will be playing at Friends University next season. All three sports have a history of sending players to four-year schools, in some cases on full rides.
