White Team Wins Inaugural Red vs White Match 6-4 over Red Team

De Queen, Ark. - UA Cossatot men's soccer played the inaugural Red vs White match, with the White Team triumphing 6-4 at the Colts Soccer Complex in De Queen.
Playing three 25-minute periods, the White Team coached by Justin Hinman took a 3-0 first period lead, and the Red Team coached by volunteer assistant coach Franklin Bahena could not recover.
Kerry Najera put the White Team up 2-0 with fourth and 10th minute goals, before David Vazquez converted a 21st minute penalty kick to make it 3-0. A minute later Mateo Martinez scored for the red team to make it 3-1.
In the second period Najera got his hat trick in the 30th minute while Martinez got his second goal in the 34th minute. Campos scored, followed quickly by Najera's fourth goal, both in the 36th minute. Martinez got his hat trick in the 47th minute, and it was 6-3 after the second period.
Je'Dyan Lockhart was the only scorer of the third period, as his 65th minute goal ensued a 6-4 scoreline.
Red had more shots with 28 to White's 17, but their shots weren't strong enough to score, as White goalkeeper Tate Fuentes was able to make 11 saves in net.
Cossatot wraps up the season on Saturday, hosting National Park at 3 p.m. The winner of the season series will win the NJCAA Region 2 Division II conference championship and advance to the district championship in two weeks, with the Nighthawks having a slight leg up after their 2-1 win in Hot Springs on Oct. 1.
